2020 Autumn Music Festival

Due to the restrictions of the covid pandemic YCIS is presenting this years Autumn Festival online
 
The performances are made up from HK winners of the 2020 YCYW Young Musicians Music Competition held earlier this year
 
We are presenting a wonderful varied programme of vocal and instrumental music for you. Travel on a whirlwind journey through time from the evocative 16th century song by Gulio Caccini​, masterpieces by Haydn, Saint Saens, Chausson and Copland, to songs from the hit broadway musical Les Miserable and K-Pop

YCIS Young Achiever
Bryan Tse (Y8) – cello, Miss Kwan accompaniment
Concerto No. 1 in C major by Joseph Haydn
 
This piece was composed around 1761-65 for longtime friend Joseph Franz Weigl, then the principal cellist of Prince Nicolaus's Esterházy Orchestra

Introduction and Tarantella Op. 43 by Pablo Sarasate
 
This proves to be the composer Sarasate’s most enduringly popular non-Spanish Dance piece

Taratelle Op. 24 by Daniel van Goens
 
Van Goens was born in the Netherlands. He took cello lessons from Leon Jacquard and composition from Albert Lavignac at the Paris Conservatory

“Le Colibri” by Ernest Chausson
 
Visions of a vivid spring are painted into sound with gently rising and falling melodic lines over captivating harmonies

Sonata in E flat Major (1st movement) by Joseph Haydn
 
It is the last of Haydn's piano sonatas and is widely considered his greatest

“On My Own’ (music by Claude-Michel Schönberg) From Les Miserables
 
This is a song from the hugely successful and long-running west end musical 'Les Miserables'

“Amarilli mia Bella” by Giulio Cacccini
 
AMARILLI, mia bella is the best known of the solo madrigals that Giulio. Caccini included in his Le nuove musiche of 1602

“Fake Love-BTS” by "Hittman" Bang Pdogg RM
 
"Fake Love" is a song recorded in Korean and Japanese by South Korean boy band BTS
YCIS Young AchieverDora Wang (Y7) – violin, Miss Kwan accompaniment
Violin concerto No. 3 in B minor by Camille Saint-Saens
 
Saint-Saëns dedicated this concerto to fellow composer-virtuoso Pablo de Sarasate, who played the solo part at the premiere in October 1880

​“The Cat and Mouse” by Aaron Copland
 
Aaron Copland's Scherzo Humoristique, written in 1920, is indeed musically humorous as it depicts the skittering rodent and sinister feline in a demanding, but very enjoyable etude setting
